Our Prototype

Our goal was to create a machine that would sort bricks of three colors (red, green, and blue) and three sizes (2x2, 2x3, 2x4), for a total of nine types of LEGO bricks. 

This 3D model shows two out of the three key elements of BrickBot's sorting mechanism. The Chamber, shown in light grey, is where bricks get scanned by a color sensor. Depending on whether the brick is red, green, or blue, a servo motor rotates the chamber to the corresponding Track of that color. Each track has three differently sized holes in the bottom, one for each size brick we are sorting. Not pictured are our nine Chutes, which carry the bricks from the holes in the Tracks down to the drawers. Also not pictured is a floor halfway up the box, which the Tracks will be screwed into. 

Rapid Prototyping

Throughout the year, we have utilized the power of 3D printing and rapid iteration to perfect each piece of BrickBot.
